Donald Trump, amid cheers and jeers, casts his ballot

Donald J. Trump cast his ballot at Manhattan’s Public School 59, a school just blocks from his home and office at Trump Tower, on Tuesday.

Despite polls showing he has a tough road ahead, the Republican nominee, wearing a dark coat and blue tie, exuded confidence as he smiled, waved and walked under basketball rims in the school’s gym accompanied by his wife, Melania, and daughter Ivanka.

He was met with a mix of cheers and boos as he left his motorcade and waved to pedestrians. Inside, he was greeted by more booing.

Mr. Trump did not acknowledge the critical welcome and instead posed for photos and continued waving.

When a New York Times reporter asked him how he was feeling, he paused and grinned. “Great,” he said a second later.

Back outside, dozens of voters waiting in line booed loudly while Mr. Trump and his family got into waiting cars. One woman also shouted a profanity loudly several times though Mr. Trump did not look up to acknowledge her, either.
