Two Egyptian policemen were killed in an armed attack on a security patrol in Menoufiya on Tuesday morning, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.
According to a security source, assailants shot at the patrol in the town of Qowaysna, killing two low-ranking policemen and injuring the chief of the town’s police investigations unit.
The security source said that the assailants, who have so far evaded capture, are already wanted on several criminal charges.
No details were provided on whether they had been charged with terrorism-related offences.
Egypt is battling an Islamist insurgency, with most fighting in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
However, militants have also struck elsewhere in the country, including the capital, often targeting police and army personnel. Source: Ahram online
