Egypt’s railway revenues rise 11.5% in 2018

Egyptian National Railways Authority’s revenues rose 11.5 percent to $2.23 billion in 2018 from $1.956 billion in 2017, announced the state-owned statics agency CAMPAS on Tuesday.

Revenues grew 13.5 percent to $187.8 million last December against $165.5 million during the same month in 2017, CAMPAS said in its recent bulletin sent to Amwal Al Ghad.

“The number of the passengers using the Egyptian railways jumped 5.1 percent to around $256.7 million in 2018, versus 243.6 million a year earlier,” the bulletin showed.

In December, the number of passengers climbed 8.3 percent to 22.2 million, compared with 20.5 million in 2017.

The quantity of goods transferred in the railways dropped 9.6 percent to 4.488 million tonnes during last year from 4.918 million tonnes a year earlier.
