Sisi: Egypt believes in comprehensive approach to human rights

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday the country promotes the idea of a comprehensive approach to human rights that includes the economic, social, health, and educational aspects, and not just the political angle.

Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting on Wednesday with a number of delegation heads participating in the 12th edition of the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) conference, which is being held in Cairo for the first time.

The meeting was attended by Abbas Kamel, the head of Egyptian general intelligence, and Mohamed Fayek, the chairman of Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights (NCHR).

“Egypt considers this conference particularly important in light of its keenness to advance human rights and justice for all African citizens,” Sisi said.

During the meeting, the president said that Egypt is hosting the conference in light of the Egyptian state’s plan to promote international and regional mechanisms concerned with human rights.

Sisi also stressed the importance of promoting continental integration efforts to meet the hopes and economic development aspirations of the African people, taking into consideration the cultural specificity of African societies.

Meanwhile, African delegation heads said holding the conference in Egypt is expected to help pave the way for additional support for NANHRI and civic freedoms in all African countries.
