Cambodia’s oil gas imports jump 12% in ’24

Cambodia’s imports of diesel fuel, petroleum oil, and gas rose by 12 per cent in 2024, reaching a total value of $2.69 billion, as per a Ministry of Commerce report published on Tuesday.

In 2024, the Southeast Asian country’s spending on diesel fuel was $1.41 billion, petroleum oil was $946 million, and petroleum gas was $334 million, showing increases of 7 per cent, 11 per cent, and 42 per cent year-on-year, respectively.

Cambodia is currently dependent on oil and gas imports as it has not yet tapped into its seabed’s oil reserves.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy predicts that Cambodia’s demand for oil products will increase to 4.8 million tons by 2030, compared to 2.8 million tons in 2020.
