Egypt celebrates the anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day

Egypt celebrates Sinai Liberation Day on April 25 every year after the evacuation of Israeli forces from Sinai territory
in 1982.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday visited the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo’s district of Nasr City on the occasion. Sisi has given his respect at the tomb of late President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat.

The government announced development projects in Sinai, with investments worth billions of Egyptian pounds.

The armed forces had taken it upon themselves to develop the Sinai, according to the cooperation with the concerned authorities, Colonel Gharib Abdel-Hafez the spokesperson for the armed forces said.

He also stressed in statements that the armed forces, had fought terrorism over the years and made sacrifices and to achieve a normal life in Sinai, it made a lot of sacrifices.

The Cabinet Press Office released a report on Sunday announcing Egypt’s efforts and comprehensive plans to develop for Sinai’s development, including large national projects in various fields.

It reviewed projects to connect Egypt’s eastern gate with the Delta region to make Sinai, linked with the Canal cities, a natural extension of the Nile Valley.  The Sinai development plans includes investments worth over EGP700bn and will be developed over eight years.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said that Egypt will perform 37 projects in higher education in Sinai, worth EGP13bn.

“The King Salman International University comes at the forefront of the national projects for higher education in Sinai, at EGP10.5 billion”, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar added.
