Egypt eyes holding COMESA Economic Forum in October

Egypt looks forward to hosting an economic investment forum of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) next October.

Egyptian Minister of Investment Ashraf Salman has met Wednesday with Heba Salama, Director of COMESA Regional Investment Agency, discussing holding a COMESA economic investment forum.

Over 1500 political figures, heads of economic ogranisations, key firms, as well as investors and businessmen’ associations from the African continent are expected to attend the forum.

The Egyptian minister with COMESA official also aimed to bolster means of investment and economic cooperation between Egypt and the African countries.

During the meeting, Minister Salman suggested establishing a unit affiliated to Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), seeking to enable investors to get to know about the economic and investment opportunities available in the African markets.

COMESA groups Burundi, Comoros, D.R. Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Since Egypt joined the COMESA in 1998, it has been its belief that through the COMESA, Africans can effectively contribute to the development and the prosperity of the people of the region and the continent in general.
