Egypt plans to drill 101 oil and gas exploration wells in 2026 as part of efforts to boost domestic production and attract further investment in the energy sector, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawy said on Monday.
Badawy outlined the plan during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, saying Egypt would also continue drilling production wells as growing confidence among international energy companies and government investment incentives support exploration and field development.
He said the Ministry of Petroleum is coordinating with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to attract additional local and foreign investment and expand exploration activities.
Badawy also briefed Madbouly on the outcomes of his recent visits to the United States, Russia, and Jordan, where he discussed opportunities to strengthen energy cooperation and attract investment in Egypt’s oil, gas and mining sectors.
He said Egypt participated in the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), where members reaffirmed the forum’s role in strengthening regional energy cooperation, enhancing energy security and supporting the development of Eastern Mediterranean gas resources.
During his visit to the United States, Badawy took part in the US-Gulf Energy Infrastructure Summit, where discussions focused on energy infrastructure, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, export routes, and investment opportunities.
The minister also presented Egypt’s energy and mining strategy at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia and discussed expanding cooperation in natural gas and energy infrastructure during meetings with officials in Jordan.
