Egypt, UK discuss green finance, investment cooperation

Egypt and Britain discussed expanding cooperation in green finance, clean energy, and export-oriented industries on Monday as Cairo seeks to attract investment and support its low-carbon transition.

Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid met British Ambassador Mark Bryson-Richardson in Cairo to discuss economic and trade cooperation, according to a ministry statement.

Farid said Egypt was exploring cooperation between Britain’s development finance institution, British International Investment (BII), and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) to support exporting companies and finance decarbonisation projects.

He said the initiative would help Egyptian firms meet international environmental standards and adapt to emerging carbon-related trade requirements.

The talks also covered opportunities to expand British investment in industry, renewable energy, financial services, healthcare, education, and technology, as well as ways to increase bilateral trade.

Farid said Egypt was prioritising the green economy and emissions reduction as part of efforts to strengthen export competitiveness and improve the investment climate.

Richardson said British companies see opportunities in Egypt across clean energy, low-carbon transition projects, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and digital transformation.

The two sides also discussed training programmes in non-banking financial services, particularly insurance, and agreed on the importance of improving implementation mechanisms to support investment and economic cooperation.
