Egypt’s state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) is accelerating work on strategic crude oil storage projects in the Eastern Desert as part of efforts to strengthen energy security and ensure stable fuel supplies, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said on Monday.
EGPC Chief Executive Officer Salah Abdel Karim inspected projects in Ras Gharib and Ras Shuqair to review construction progress and address implementation challenges as part of the ministry’s strategy to expand the country’s strategic petroleum storage capacity.
Abdel Karim said the projects would strengthen Egypt’s fuel security by maintaining strategic crude oil reserves and ensuring reliable energy supplies.
He instructed project teams to accelerate implementation, adhere to project schedules and occupational health and safety standards, while improving operational efficiency and reducing costs at the General Petroleum Company (GPC).
The ministry said EGPC, the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO), the Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC), and the Egyptian Projects Operations and Maintenance (EPROM) will coordinate efforts to secure electricity supplies, complete pipeline connections, and carry out commissioning tests to ensure the facilities begin operating on schedule.
