Egypt’s PM pledges to eradicate leprosy

Madbouly urges full integration of recovered patients and continued social support

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Tuesday that strengthening health services is essential for social, economic and environmental development.

He told senior officials that the government must adopt policies that secure healthy lives, wipe out infectious and non-communicable diseases, and help recovered patients return to normal life.

During the meeting on plans to declare Egypt leprosy-free, Madbouly noted Egypt’s success in eliminating hepatitis C, hepatitis B, malaria and polio. He vowed to repeat this record with leprosy.
“We will eliminate leprosy and announce Egypt clear of the disease,” he said.
