Egypt’s trade with Asian states up 8.8% in 5 months

Trade exchange between Egypt and Asian countries rose 8.8 percent to $16.75 billion during the first five months of this year from $15.272 billion last year.

The volume of foreign trade with Asian countries jumped 5.2 percent to around $3.399 in May from $3.221 billion during the same month in 2017, according to a copy of a state statics agency CAPMAS statement reviewed by Amwal Al Ghad on Sunday.

“Egyptian exports to Asian countries stood at about $4.456 billion during the first five months of the current year,” CAPMAS said.

Exports fell 18 percent to 763.79 million in May, compared with $931.445 million last year.

Egypt’s imports from Asian countries climbed 13.7 percent to $12.937 billion during the January-May 2018 period from $10.815 billion last year.

In May, imports rose 15 percent to $2.635 billion against $2.29 billion last year.

China captured 26.4 percent of the total volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Asian countries during the first five months of the year.

Egyptian exports to China rose 38.4 percent to $462.427 million from $334.145 million. Meanwhile, Egypt’s imports from China inched up 24.6 percent to $3.966 billion against $3.183 billion.

Trade exchange between Egypt and Israel surged 27.3 percent to around $71.857 million, compared with $52.238 million.

Egyptian exports to Israel edged higher 75.9 percent to $37.81 million, against $21.491 million.

“Egyptian imports from Israel jumped to $34.047 million from $30.747 million,” the agency added.

Trade between Egypt and South Korea climbed 18.4 percent to $750.849 million from $612.873 million last year.

Egyptian exports to South Korea grew 101.9 percent to $62.762 million from $31.08 million. Meanwhile Egypt’s imports from South Korea rose 18.3 percent to $688.087 million, compared with $581.793 million.

Trade between Egypt and Japan increased 9.6 percent to around $529.551 million, versus $478.446 million.

Egypt’s exports to Japan rose 85.4 percent to $65.507 million, against $35.325 million. The Egyptian imports jumped 4.7 percent to $464.044 million from $443.121 million.

Trade between Egypt and Taiwan registered a 20 percent growth to $158.484 million, compared with $162.782 million.

Egypt’s imports from Taiwan inched up 28.2 percent to $156.07, versus $121.727 million. Egyptian exports to Taiwan fell 52.2 percent to $2.414 million from $5.055 million.

Trade between Egypt and India dropped 15.4 percent to $1.24 billion, compared with $1.431 billion last year.

Egyptian imports from India reduced 30 percent to $811.908 million from $1.159 billion. Meanwhile Egypt’s exports to India rose 57.7 percent to $428.161 million from $271.452 million.

Trade between Egypt and Singapore slipped 7.5 percent to $115.359 million, against $124.055 million.

Egypt’s imports from Singapore fell 12.8 percent to $86.127 million, versus $98.788 million, while the Egyptian exports from Singapore jumped 15.7 percent to $29.232 million from $25.267 million.
