PM: Egypt nears full operation of 1.15 GW Ras Ghareb wind projects

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Thursday that two large-scale wind energy projects in the Red Sea’s Ras Ghareb area have made significant progress, with parts of the installations already feeding power into the national grid.

The prime minister Madbouly announced during a press conference that the first project, a 650-megawatt (MW) wind power station, has already delivered 500 MW to the grid. The remaining 150 MW are expected to become operational within the next two to three weeks.

The second project, with a capacity of 500 MW, has also begun generating electricity and is currently undergoing commissioning for full-scale operation.

The prime minister highlighted the government’s push to complete these renewable energy initiatives ahead of the summer season to strengthen the country’s electricity supply. “These projects play a vital role in expanding Egypt’s renewable energy portfolio and advancing sustainable development,” Prime Minister Madbouly said.

The Ras Ghareb developments are part of Egypt’s broader national strategy to diversify energy sources and meet growing demand while reducing carbon emissions under the Vision 2030 framework.
