Sidara says Egypt remains key market at London BEBA event

Egypt remains a key market in Sidara’s global strategy, Dar–Sidara executive Hazem Gohar said on Wednesday, highlighting the company’s long-standing involvement in major infrastructure and urban development projects in the country.

Gohar, director of the Water & Environment Department at Dar–Sidara, was speaking during a British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) business mission in London held under the theme “Egypt Forward: Investment Opportunities & Sustainable Economic Reform.”

He said Dar has operated in Egypt for more than five decades and has contributed to a range of national projects, including the New Capital, the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre, and major transport infrastructure developments.

“Today, Sidara employs more than 55,000 professionals across 70 countries, delivering projects in sustainable cities, infrastructure, and community development worldwide,” Gohar said.

He said Sidara was formed through the integration of multiple specialist engineering and design firms, with Dar acting as its founding company.

Daniel Horner, managing director of Dar–Sidara UK, said around 1,000 staff are based at the company’s London office, which brings together 12 of Sidara’s specialist brands.

He said the group’s work spans multiple international markets, including Egypt, where it has been involved in major infrastructure and urban development projects.

Horner highlighted his previous work between London and Cairo, including participation in projects such as the New Administrative Capital and the Suez Canal region.

He also pointed to the company’s London headquarters at 150 Holborn as an example of its technical capabilities, describing it as a smart building using data-driven systems to manage energy use and occupancy.

The system collects operational data to optimise building performance and is used as a model for other projects globally.

The remarks came as part of discussions on digital transformation and sustainability in the built environment and their role in future infrastructure development in Egypt and other markets.
