Sisi to Quartet Leaders: Egypt still supports Palestine Statehood

Egypt President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Friday representatives from Jordan, Palestine and the United States to discuss means of reviving stalled peace talks between Palestine and Israel, according to a presidential statement.

The meeting included Jordanian Monarch Abdullah II, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and U.S. Department of State John Kerry.

“The President highlighted though the meeting the Egypt’s fixed situation towards the Palestinian case, particularly the Palestine statehood and the achievement of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights,” the statement read.

Sisi said that bringing the stability and peace to the Middle East would bring more development required to meet the peoples’ aspirations, The Cairo Post news portal reported.

U.S.-brokered peace talks fell apart last year when Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to suspend the peace talks over the unity government between the inter-Palestinian factions in April 2014.

Friday’s meeting came on the sidelines of the three-day Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in Sharm el-Sheikh in South Sinai which kicked off Friday.
