Telecom Egypt changes dial codes for 10th of Ramadan City residents

Preparing for launching 4G mobile services, Telecom Egypt is running a process of changing dial codes for 10th of Ramadan city dwellers from (015) to (0554). TE aims to clear this spectrum of frequencies for purposes of providing the long-anticipated 4G services.

For this reason, TE is undertaking an extensive media campaign to inform clients with the new changes through pre-recorded voice messages.

Tamer Gadalla, TE board member and chief executive, said that this move is part of the company’s plan to develop its infrastructure in conformity with market requirements.

Telecom Egypt, the country’s fixed-line monopoly, acquired last August its 4G licence at a cost of 7.08 billion Egyptian pounds ($797 million). The move will allow it to enter the mobile phone market directly for the first time.

The fourth generation (4G) licences refer to technology that transfers data at higher speeds because it treats data at the same speed as voice. The technology enables the user to display and transfer photographs and multimedia files including videos in a faster and clearer way.

Companies operating 4G networks can offer maximum speeds for data transmission that reach 100 megabytes per second for remote mobile communication users in cars and trains and one gigabyte per second with wi-max technology.

Tamer Gadallah, the CEO of TE, said that trial operations of the service would start in six months, while the company would begin offering the service as soon as it had finished building the necessary infrastructure.
