Egypt new capital’s fifth residential district Phase I due in 3yrs

Egypt’s Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) plans to finalise developing the first phase of the fifth residential district – New Garden City – in the new capital within three years, a source said on Sunday.

The original Garden City – located in the heart of Cairo to cater mainly for elite Egyptians and expatriates – is home to foreign embassies, such as the United States, British, and Italian embassies – grand private mansions, and upscale hotels with chic global restaurants.

“We have started developing the fifth residential district, which will encompass around 2,500 housing units as well as fully-fledged areas, in December ” the source with knowledge further told Amwal Al Ghad.

Spanning over 1,000 feddans in two phases, the district is also set to include a five-star hotel, 23,000 housing units varying between residential apartments and villas as well as some other luxury homes, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly earlier said.

The city’s buildings will be according the old French design style similar to the architecture of several buildings in Downtown Cairo.

There are nine contractors – working on the first phase – include Egypt’s state-owned Hassan Allam, Orascom Construction, Redcon, and SIAC Holding.

Al-Marasem International for Development, Talaat Moustafa, Concrete Plus for Engineering and Construction, and El Rowad are also developing the project.

Saudi construction giant Binladin Group and UAE-based Al Shafar General Contracting are responsible for implementing the works.

Located 45km (28 miles) east of Cairo, the anticipated new capital city is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the country’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.
