Russia coronavirus cases near 100,000

Russia reported 99,939 coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, an additional 5,841 infections in the past 24 hours, according to the country’s crisis response centre.

The total number of reported fatalities due to the virus remains relatively low, at 972 deaths.

Earlier the day, Russia said it has carried out 3.3 million tests.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the national “nonworking” month through to May 11, warning that Russia had not yet seen the peak of the virus.
