Egypt sees 149 new coronavirus cases, 10 deaths on Friday

Egypt confirmed 149 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total infection tally to 103,466 since the outbreak hit the country in mid-February, a statement by the health ministry said.

The ministry also reported 10 new deaths, bringing the total fatalities from the virus to 5,956.

The ministry said that 288 patients were discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 97,143.

Though the number of the daily new coronavirus cases has been relatively few since August, the government repeatedly urged caution to avoid a potential second wave of the pandemic, particularly with the advent of autumn and the beginning of the new academic year.
