Egypt operates solar-powered cars at 2 archaeological sites in Luxor

Egypt has started using a number of solar-powered cars to transport Egyptian visitors and tourists inside the Deir el-Bahari complex and Valley of the Kings in Luxor governorate to ease the movement between the two archaeological sites.

Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is always keen on using modern technology and activate the basics of sustainable tourism to preserve the environment in museums, according to its statement on Monday.

The number of cars at the two archaeological sites expected to increase during the coming period, especially with the beginning of winter tourist season, the statement added.

The visitors can easily find these cars at the sites’ entrance gates during the official visiting hours to transport guests and facilitate their visits.

This step came to make the archaeological sites to be environmentally friendly coinciding Egypt’s preparation for COP27, which is scheduled to be held in Sharm El Sheikh next November.

Moreover, it is planned to increase the number of solar-powered vehicles to be supplied at all archaeological sites all over the republic, the secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Moustafa Waziri, noted.
