Biden demands protection for hospitals in Gaza

U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Monday the hospitals in the Gaza Strip “must be protected” and hoped for “less intrusive” action by Israel.

Israeli forces fought to take control of what they believe to be a Hamas command complex located beneath the main hospital in the enclave, Al-Shifa Hospital.

As Israeli troops surrounded Al-Shifa over the weekend, thousands of people left the area. The World Health Organisation (WHO) issued a “dire and perilous” situation for patients on Monday.

WHO stated that Al-Shifa “is not functioning as a hospital anymore,” after running out of water and fuel.
