The number of mobile subscribers in Egypt has hit around 95.6 million by last of November, according to Egyptian Ministry of Information Technology and Communications’ latest report.
The report showed that Vodafone has obtained the biggest share of market for the number of mobile users of 40.9% as they have reached 39.1 million subscribers.
Mobinil was ranked second seizing 34.7% of Egyptian mobile subscribers that reached 33.17 million. For Etisalat, the number of subscribers raised to 22.9 million during September to make its market share reached around 24% of the Egyptian mobile market.
Moreover, the volume of revenues for the three mobile providers hit EGP 23.1 billion by end of the third quarter of 2012 ended last September, according to the ICT ministry’s previous reports, which measures the volume of market. Other reports issued by ICT ministry revealed that Vodafone Egypt has acquired 41% of the market revenue totaling EGP 9.7 billion, Mobinil ranked second seizing 33% totally EGP 7.2 billion. Telecom Egypt came third acquiring 26% of the market’s revenues totaling EGP 6.2 billion.
It is worth noting that in 1998, the revenue of mobile market in Egypt hit EGP 500 million recording a leap of EGP 23 billion through 14 years. It is necessary to focus on alluring new competitors contributing to the increase in the number of Egyptian mobile users on one hand and supporting the market to provide better services in addition to offering lower prices by service providers.
