Qatar, Russia divert vessels from Red Sea

Qatar and Russia, suppliers of liquefied natural gas, are avoiding the the Red Sea in light of heightened risks and continued attacks in the Red Sea, Bloomberg reported.

Three tankers carrying Qatari liquified natural gas (LNG) had stopped off the coast of Oman over the weekend after US airstrikes hit Yemen.

According to the report, these tankers appear to be heading towards the Cape of Good Hope in southern Africa or to Southeast Asia.

The vessels were initially set to sail through the Red Sea, delivering gas to Europe.

Two other tankers, including one controlled by Russia’s Yamal export project, diverted from the northern entrance of the Suez Canal in the Mediterranean Sea late Monday, according to Bloomberg.

The vessels had been waiting at the Suez Canal entrance and they were carrying gas destined for Asia.

The U.S. has been warning vessels to stay away from the Red Sea in light of the growing tension.
