China builds $70m textile factory in Egypt’s SCZONE
Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) witnessed on Sunday the groundbreaking of a new factory by the Chinese company Zhejiang Hengsheng, focused on dyeing, processing, and printing fabrics and textiles.
Located in the Qantara West industrial zone, the $70 million facility will span 200,000 square metres, developed in two phases of 100,000 square metres each, and is expected to create around 1,500 direct jobs.
SCZONE aims to establish the Qantara West Industrial Zone as a hub for the garment and textile industry in Egypt. So far, the authority has successfully attracted 15 companies interested in investing in the area, with six having signed final contracts and two more in the pipeline.
Once fully operational, these projects are projected to generate approximately 18,000 job opportunities, with 80 per cent of production for export, aligning with Egypt’s vision for enhancing export development, according to SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien.
