S. Africa’s producer index up at 4.2% YoY in July 

South Africa’s Producer Price Index (PPI) for final manufactured goods recorded a 4.2 per cent increase year-on-year (YoY) in July 2024. However, the index showed a decrease of 0.2 per cent month on mpnth.

The annual PPI inflation rate was notably influenced by several sectors. Coke, petroleum, chemical, rubber, and plastic products rose by 5.0 per cent YoY, contributing 1.2 percentage points.

Food products, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 3.5 per cent year-on-year, adding 1.0 per cent. Moreover, metals, machinery, equipment, and computing equipment saw a 4.9 per cent year-on-year increase, contributing 0.7 percentage points.

Conversely, the main negative contributor to the monthly PPI decrease was coke, petroleum, chemical, rubber, and plastic products, which fell by 1.5 per cent month-on-month (MoN), resulting in a contribution of -0.4 percentage points.
