The Indian government’s net direct tax collection increased by over 16 per cent year-on-year to 15.8 trillion rupees ($186.07 billion) from April 1 to December 17, as per an official statement from the income tax department released on Wednesday.
Direct taxes, including corporate and personal tax, surged by more than 20 per cent to 19.2 trillion rupees on a gross basis during the period. The government also confirmed issuing tax refunds totalling 3.4 trillion rupees.
