Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire explore stronger ties in pharmaceutical sector

Ali Al-Ghamrawy, head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), met on Wednesday with Côte d’Ivoire’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dolé Gueu Albert to explore strategic pharmaceutical partnerships between the two nations.

The meeting focused on boosting collaboration in drug registration, regulatory oversight, and pharmaceutical trade. Al-Ghamrawy highlighted Egypt’s readiness to support Côte d’Ivoire’s drug regulatory system and facilitate the entry of Egyptian medicines into the Ivorian market.

He further emphasised that Egypt’s recognition by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the first African regulatory authority to achieve maturity level 3 in both pharmaceuticals and vaccines marks a major milestone. This achievement reinforces Egypt’s leadership in the African pharmaceutical sector, empowering the country to shape the industry’s future and bolster pharmaceutical security across the continent.

Ambassador Albert hailed Egypt’s leadership in the African pharmaceutical industry and expressed Côte d’Ivoire’s eagerness to tap into Egyptian expertise to strengthen its healthcare sector.

The discussions align with Egypt’s national strategy to localise pharmaceutical manufacturing across Africa and enhance regional drug security.
