Egypt’s Irrigation Min. follows up on Water-JCAR Programme

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam held a meeting with top ministry officials to review ongoing and planned studies under the first phase of the applied research programme Water-JCAR with the Netherlands, as per a Cabinet statement.

He stressed the importance of innovative research to tackle growing water management challenges, focusing on modern irrigation techniques, eco-friendly materials, and climate adaptation strategies.

Sewilam also highlighted the need for training young engineers and researchers in line with the ministry’s Water Management 2.0 vision.

The meeting discussed a proposed project to digitise private irrigation canals in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture that aims to enhance water distribution, support user associations, and improve agricultural productivity.

The Water-JCAR agreement includes cooperation between Egypt’s National Water Research Centre, the Agricultural Research Centre, and Dutch institutions including Wageningen University, the Environmental Assessment Agency, and Deltares.
