LG plans extra battery investment in Indonesia

South Korea’s LG Group has reaffirmed its commitment to Indonesia with plans to inject an additional $1.7 billion into a battery cell factory, raising the project’s total investment to $2.8 billion, according to Indonesia’s Investment Minister on Tuesday.

Minister Rosan Roeslani commented on LG Energy Solution’s withdrawal from a $8.46 billion electric vehicle battery supply chain project in Indonesia, citing market conditions and investment climate.

“The commitment from LG remains big, a concrete example is that they will invest in the development of this JV,” he told a press conference, referring to a battery plant in West Java.
