Asia-Pacific markets mixed as investors eye US trade ties

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed on Tuesday as investors weighed trade developments between the US and regional economies, while attention also turned to Asian currencies, which weakened as the US dollar strengthened.

China’s CSI 300 index rose 1.01 per cent to close at 3,808.54, its highest level since April 3. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index also gained 0.7 per cent to end the day at 22,662.71.

In India, the Nifty 50 benchmark dropped by 0.29 per cent and the BSE Sensex decreased by 0.22 per cent in volatile trading as of 1.42 pm Indian Standard Time.

The S&P/ASX 200 benchmark in Australia closed the day unchanged at 8,151.40.
