India is expected to achieve a record wheat production of 117.5 million metric tons by June 2025, surpassing the previous forecast of 115.4 million tons due to increased cultivation of high-yielding seed varieties driven by higher prices.
India, the second-largest wheat producer in the world after China, harvested 113.3 million tons of wheat in 2024, according to a statement released by the farm ministry on Wednesday.
The ministry projects that the country’s rice production in 2025 will reach a record high of 149 million metric tons, an increase from the previous year’s 137.8 million tons.
