Egypt’s FM, China’s Wang discuss Iran-Israel escalation

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed the ongoing military escalation between Israel and Iran, along with Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions and avert a wider conflict in the Middle East. He warned of the grave consequences such developments pose to regional security and stability.

In a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Abdel-Aty stressed the necessity of diplomatic and political solutions. He underlined the urgency of de-escalation to prevent the region from descending into chaos. He also called for intensified efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire and return to negotiations as the only path to a sustainable agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Wang expressed China’s agreement with Egypt’s stance and praised the joint communique issued on June 16 by 24 Arab and Islamic nations, initiated by Egypt. The statement called for an immediate ceasefire and a swift return to negotiations as the only viable solution for a lasting agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue.
