Egypt pushes market stability, consumer protection in meeting with trade leaders

Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk met on Monday with representatives from the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and major producers to discuss efforts to stabilise markets and ensure the steady supply of essential goods, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Farouk said the government prioritises market discipline and consumer protection, with zero tolerance for practices that disrupt supply or limit availability. He stressed that cooperation between the ministry, private sector, and trade federations has been key to price reduction initiatives and overall market stability.

The minister highlighted successful projects such as One-Day Markets and seasonal exhibitions like Ahlan Ramadan and Ahlan Madaris, which provided affordable, high-quality goods while promoting fair competition. He also called for intensified inspection campaigns to enforce consumer protection regulations.

Farouk added that the state continues to work closely with the private sector to maintain food security and implement flexible policies supporting local production.
