Egypt, India’s Oberoi Group discuss expanding hotel investments, tourism cooperation

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty met on Thursday with Ajay Mehra, Senior Vice President of Oberoi Hotels, to discuss expanding cooperation in tourism and hospitality and attracting new investment from the Indian hotel group, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.

During the meeting in New Delhi, Abdel-Atty highlighted opportunities offered by the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), particularly in real estate and hospitality, and discussed potential collaboration with Oberoi in redeveloping several buildings and assets — especially following the relocation of government ministries to the New Administrative Capital.

He also outlined Egypt’s strategy to boost tourist arrivals, encouraging Oberoi to expand its presence across Egyptian cities by establishing more hotels and restaurants. The minister noted growing interest from Indian travellers in visiting Egypt for its historical landmarks and leisure experiences.

Abdel-Atty welcomed the company’s plans to build a new hotel near the Pyramids and manage several hospitality projects in Cairo and Aswan, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to strengthening tourism ties and attracting high-quality investments from India’s private sector.
