Egypt unveiled five new initiatives to strengthen Arab energy security during the annual ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) on Sunday.
Central to Egypt’s proposals is the Arab Energy Interconnection Map 2030, aimed at identifying priority projects in pipelines, receiving terminals, and the transport of crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
The initiatives also include an Arab mechanism to coordinate emergency purchases of crude oil and LNG and the exchange of shipments among member states when needed.
Moreover, Egypt proposed a digital platform for member states to showcase investment opportunities across exploration and production, refining, petrochemicals, storage, trading, transport, and new and renewable energy.
The proposal also included a unified Arab programme for technical exchange and capacity building in operations, maintenance, and environmental governance.
Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi stressed that the future of Arab energy depends on integrated efforts, unified visions, and turning challenges into opportunities, underlining Egypt’s commitment to supporting Arab cooperation and leveraging natural and infrastructural assets for the benefit of member states.
