Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy inspected night shift operations and stayed overnight with workers on the EDC 73 drilling rig during a field visit to the Western Desert, the ministry said on Sunday.
Badawy visited the rig, operated by the Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) under the concession of Agiba Petroleum Company, in the Meliha area.
During the visit, he remained on site with workers and monitored operations during the night shift. He said production sites operate around the clock to ensure operational continuity and secure stable energy supplies.
The minister reviewed ongoing drilling activity at the rig, which is currently drilling the North Lotus Deep 2 development well in the Meliha area.
Drilling and completion are expected to be finalised within one month, with estimated output of around 1,000 barrels of oil per day, in addition to about 2 million cubic feet of gas, the ministry said.
