Egypt to disburse over EGP 4 bln in July Takaful and Karama payments
Egypt will disburse more than 4 billion Egyptian pounds in July cash transfers to 4.7 million families under its flagship Takaful and Karama welfare programme starting Wednesday, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy said on Tuesday.
Beneficiaries will be able to access the payments through automated teller machines nationwide and use the funds for electronic transactions, purchases and government services, the Ministry of Social Solidarity said in a statement.
The programme supports about 17 million people through cash assistance to 4.7 million low-income households and has an annual budget of 54 billion pounds, according to the ministry.
Launched in 2015, Takaful and Karama is Egypt’s flagship cash-transfer programme and forms part of the government’s broader social protection strategy to support low-income and vulnerable households amid ongoing economic reforms.
