Egypt, Roche sign deal to digitise eye care services
Egypt’s Ministry of Health signed a cooperation agreement with Roche Egypt on Thursday to digitise eye care services under the country’s national programme to eliminate waiting lists for surgeries and critical medical interventions, the ministry said.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, aims to modernise the national eye care system by introducing an integrated electronic platform that links participating healthcare facilities, improves data management, strengthens oversight, and accelerates service delivery.
“The ministry places digital transformation and healthcare governance at the heart of its reform agenda,” Abdel Ghaffar said. “This partnership marks an important step towards modernising ophthalmic services through an integrated digital system that strengthens oversight, improves data management, and enhances the quality and efficiency of patient care.”
Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the project would establish a comprehensive database to support clinical decision-making, improve patient follow-up, and enhance the management of eye care services under the national waiting-list programme.
He added that the agreement provides for the establishment of a joint committee to oversee implementation and monitor performance indicators, including the number of healthcare facilities integrated into the system and its impact on reducing patient waiting times.
Abdel Ghaffar said the partnership reflects the ministry’s strategy of expanding cooperation with the private sector to deploy innovative digital health solutions that improve the efficiency and quality of public healthcare services.
