Movingfert, Genesis Mining plan phosphate complexes in Egypt

Egyptian private-sector companies are planning two integrated industrial complexes based on phosphate ore, as the government seeks to move the mining sector from raw-material extraction towards higher-value processing and manufacturing.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawy reviewed plans by Egyptian companies Movingfert and Genesis Mining during a visit to the Abu Tartour phosphate project site on Wednesday, the ministry said.

The companies plan to develop two industrial complexes, combining phosphate extraction with downstream processing to produce fertilisers, phosphoric acid, and other higher-value products, the ministry said.

Movingfert plans to establish a complex in Abu Tartour to extract and upgrade phosphate ore, produce fertilisers, and explore the use of rare earth elements, according to the ministry.

Genesis Mining is planning a separate integrated complex in the Dakhla area that would include phosphate exploration and the production of fertilisers, phosphoric acid, and other higher-value products.

The projects reflect growing private-sector interest in Egypt’s mining industry and the government’s push to develop integrated value chains rather than export minerals in raw form.

The ministry said the planned investments would increase the added value generated from Egypt’s mineral resources and support the development of mining-based industries.
