An additional 1,500 soldiers have been mobilised in Paris in the wake of a series of attacks across the capital which has left as many as 140 people dead.
The Presidency of the French Republic confirmed they had met late on Thursday and agreed to implement “enhanced” security measures after the country declared an official state of emergency.
According to an official statement released by government officials as well as the deployment of extra soldiers a number of other extra security measures have also been put in place, including:
- An arrangement to allow the house arrest of any person whose activity is dangerous,
- Powers to allow for the temporary closure of auditoriums and meeting rooms,
- The immediate restoration of border controls
Despite the increased border security, air travel in and out of Paris appeared to be unaffected. Officials at Charles de Gaulle Airport confirmed that flights had not been suspended, although security had been heightened significantly. Both departing and arriving passengers and baggage were being screened thoroughly.
