France, Egypt hold talks on joint industrial zone in Alexandria

A group of French investors is seeking to build an industrial zone in Egypt’s second biggest city, Alexandria, an official in the Egypt-France Business Council (CFEA) said on Thursday.

The investors recently held talks with officials in the Alexandria Port Authority, seeking to have lands to build a joint industrial zone in Alexandria on a space of 24 feddans, the Egyptian side president of the CFEA Fouad Younes told Amwal Al Ghad.

“The French Chamber (the French Chamber of Commerce in Egypt) is expected to hold a meeting soon with the Alexandria Port Authority officials for a new round of talks on the proposed industrial zone project,” Younes said.

Younes said preparations are being made for French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Egypt, which is expected to be within next November or December. The visit will include agreements between the two countries in the fields of security, economy, antiquities, and culture.

There are 150 French firms operating in Egypt, with investments worth up to €4 billion ($4.6 billion), Younes said.
