Egypt, Eni accelerate gas projects, exploration

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met on Thursday with a delegation from Italian energy company Eni to discuss accelerating the development of discoveries, boosting production, and expanding exploration activities in the country.

Badawi stressed the need to accelerate development of the Denise gas field in the Mediterranean to bring it on stream, calling for closer coordination among relevant parties and adherence to clear timelines to expedite production and utilise the field’s resources.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Meleiha plant in Egypt’s Western Desert, where construction is nearing completion ahead of operations. The minister described the project as a priority given its potential to add new gas volumes to production from wells discovered in the area.

The two sides also discussed the development of the Cronos field in Cyprus and plans to connect it to Egypt’s infrastructure following the partners’ final investment decision.

Badawi reaffirmed the ministry’s support for completing the necessary procedures and accelerating work to enable faster utilisation of Cronos’ gas resources, strengthen gas cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus, and maximise the use of Egypt’s infrastructure.

Eni officials reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the ministry, accelerating ongoing projects, and increasing exploration and production activities, while studying new oil and gas opportunities in Egypt.
