Egypt’s CIT Min. explores cooperation with Japanese firms

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology (CIT) Amr Talaat held meetings with officials from major Japanese companies to discuss cooperation opportunities in the ICT fields, particularly in electronics design and manufacturing.

Discussions focused on attracting more Japanese investments to the Egyptian market and establishing research and development (R&D) centres, according to a statement published by the ministry on Sunday.

Toshiba Development and Engineering Corporation

Talaat met with Toshiba Development and Engineering Corporation President Fumihiko Okaniwa and officials to discuss Toshiba’s technologies and collaboration with Elaraby Group, according to the statement.

Discussions also covered plans to expand a regional R&D centre in collaboration with Elaraby Group, focusing on hardware and software development, multimedia systems, embedded electronics, IoT platforms, and AI-enabled digital products.

Sharp Company

The minister also met with officials from the electronics and smart appliances company Sharp, including Business Coordinator at Sharp for Elaraby Keiji Yamanaka and Vice President of the AIoT Division Masanori Komori.

The meeting highlighted the company’s smart technologies in Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (AIoT), along with its ongoing collaboration with Elaraby Group, as per the statement.

However, the discussions also explored potential joint R&D initiatives in smart applications and devices aimed at serving both the European and regional markets from Egypt, the statement added.

Japan International Cooperation Agency

The agenda included a meeting with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) head Akihiko Tanaka to discuss enhancing cooperation in digital capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and AI.
