Egypt’s SteelCon signs $2 mln metal components project in East Port Said – SCZONE
Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed an agreement with local company SteelCon to establish a $2 million facility producing structural steel components in the East Port Said Industrial Zone, the authority said on Thursday.
The project will be developed on a 5,388-square-metre site and is expected to create 50 direct and 20 indirect jobs, according to an SCZONE statement.
The facility will produce steel trusses and structural metal components for industrial developments, supplying both existing and future projects within the zone.
SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said supporting industries and stronger industrial linkages were key to boosting the competitiveness of East Port Said and attracting further manufacturing investment.
“SteelCon’s project represents an important addition to East Port Said’s industrial base by providing locally produced construction and metal components for industrial projects,” he said.
He added that the project would help improve the availability of inputs, strengthen local supply chains, and accelerate industrial expansion across the zone.
SCZONE has increasingly focused on attracting investments that support integrated industrial ecosystems, complementing larger manufacturing projects with suppliers and supporting industries to increase local value addition and reduce reliance on imports.
Gamal El-Dien said the authority’s strategy was focused not only on attracting new investors, but also on building a diversified industrial base capable of sustaining long-term growth and strengthening the zone’s position as a regional manufacturing hub.
