Etisalat to pay Orange Egypt $32mn compensation for interconnection case

The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) ruled Monday against Etisalat Misr, concerning its dispute with Orange Egypt over interconnection fees amounting to 418 million Egyptian pounds ($47.1 million).

Etisalat asked to pay 285.190 million pounds in favor of Orange Egypt in addition to interest of delay in payment and all fees of arbitration.

Interconnection is crucial for communicating across networks, and makes it possible for the subscribers of two different operators to communicate with each other. Interconnection involves a linking up of one telecom operator to the infrastructure facilities of another with certain prices that differ from one company to another.

Egyptian mobile operator Orange (formerly Mobinil) has filed an arbitration case on 11 August 2014 against Etisalat Misr regarding their dispute over Interconnect fees worth of 418 million pounds.
