Najla Ali Mahmoud (born in 1962), is married to Egypt’s president- elected Mohamed Morsi, and became the First Lady of Egypt.
She was born in 1962 in Ain Shams, a suburb of Cairo, Egypt.
She worked at the Islamic Center in California. She was a member of an actors organization of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
Najla went to high school in Egypt, and then moved to study in Los Angeles, USA. She worked in the house of Muslim student as an interpreter and translator for American Muslims. Najla first met with her engineering student cousin Mohamed Morsi when he was visiting the states, where they tied the knot in 1979. Najla and Morsi have four boys and a girl.
In her first interview with the media, Najla rejected “the first lady” title and believes that the president’s wife should not interfere in politics like her predecessors Suzanne Mubarak and Jihan Sadat.
Najla joined the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States, where she concentrated her role in charity work, especially in the education field.
As a Mother She says, “My children always take their father as an idol, and are to respect the organization system even in home, affirming that any outside activities should not affect in anyway mother’s role in home.”
