US retail sales rose 1.0% in July

US retail sales rose 1.0 per cent in July 2024 to $709.7 billion, marking a 2.7 per cent increase from July 2023, according to latest data released by the US Census Bureau on Wednesday.

Sales for May 2024 through July 2024 were up 2.4 per cent compared to the same period last year. The percentage change from May to June 2024 was revised from nearly unchanged to a decrease of 0.2 per cent.

Retail trade sales increased by 1.1 per cent from June 2024 and 2.6 per cent from the previous year. Non-store retailers saw a 6.7 per cent rise from last year, while food services and drinking places grew by 3.4 per cent from July 2023.
