Egypt develops 269 unsafe slums at total cost of EGP61bln in 6 years
Egypt has developed 296 unsafe informal settlements with total cost of 61 billion Egyptian pounds within 6 years, the country’s housing minister Assem El-Gazzar said.
Egypt has built about 1 million residential units at a combined value of 200 billion pounds.
The government established 610,000 social housing units and 140,000 moderate-income housing at cost of 90 billion Egyptian pounds and 54 billion pounds, respectively, El-Gazzar added during the inauguration of several national projects.
A total of 250,000 alternative housing units have also been built, he noted.
El-Gazzar further revealed that 13 governorates, including Port Said, have became free from unsafe and unplanned areas.
