UK PM at COP27 says Russian war in Ukraine is ‘reason for faster climate action’
The Russian war in Ukraine is a reason to for faster climate action, said UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the UN climate summit COP27 in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday.
“Climate and energy security go hand-in-hand,” Sunak said in his first international appearance since taking office later October.
“Putin’s abhorrent war in Ukraine and rising energy prices across the world are not a reason to go slow on climate change. They are a reason to act faster,” the British prime minister added.
“We can bequeath our children a greener planet and a more prosperous future […] There really is room for hope,”
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is also in Egypt to take part at COP27. He said countries should not “go weak and wobbly” on climate action.
