Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and African Union Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development Amma Twum-Amoah discussed enhancing healthcare cooperation, the Egyptian Cabinet reported on Wednesday.
Abdel Ghaffar commended the strong coordination with the African Union Commission on major health issues. He stressed that strengthening intra-African partnerships in the health sector is essential for improving services and reflects a strategic vision for the continent’s future healthcare landscape.
The meeting addressed ongoing technical collaboration, particularly in digital transformation, population development strategies, and nutrition. It also focused on cooperation with key African Union bodies such as the African Medicines Agency (AMA) to enhance its role continent-wide.
The discussions placed special emphasis on exchanging expertise in medical training, pharmaceutical manufacturing, primary healthcare, and public health initiatives, all of which are central to strengthening Africa’s health systems.
Twum-Amoah expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s commitment to continental healthcare cooperation, lauding its sustained efforts to establish durable partnerships and its achievements in public health, which she described as a model for the region.
